Special Kirtan on Sunday. Please welcome Ustad Baljit Singh ji, Laxmi (daughter) as side vocalist and instrumentalist, Fateh (son) as tabla accompanist & Vimaljeet (wife) as chorus vocalist.
Ustad Baljit Singh Ji was born in Village Khaperkheri, District Amritsar to Gurbachan Singh and Pritam Kaur. He inherited the passion of sangeet from his paternal and maternal grandparents. His professional music education started from well-known thumri singer, Ustad Mohinder Singh (Amritsar). A few years later, he was fortunate enough to become a disciple of Ustad Piara Singh to learn tar shehnai and dilruba.
Ustad Baljit Singh Ji’s intense 18+ years of training includes guidance under Ustad Vilayat Khan Saab, Ustad Bismillah Khan Saab, Pandit Gopal Krishna, and many more. Some of Ustad Ji’s achievements include All-India radio award in 1983, Shrimoni Raagi award from Punjabi Academy in 2004 and Delhi Government in 2005. He has performed at several prestigious stages including Harballabh Sangeet Sammelan, Kalidas Sangeet Sammelan, Tansen Sangeet Samaroh (Gwalior), Ustad Hafiz Ali Memorial Sangeet Sammelan, etc. He proudly holds the treasure of Guru Nanak gharana which includes dhrupad, dhamaar, partaal, guldasta, chaturang, thumri, raag-mala, tarana, etc.
Vimaljeet Kaur, his spouse, has always been a supporter, and she shares the same motivation and dedication for sangeet and kirtan.
